Grade 6: Keyboarding Introduction:
Mr. Koczarski is the 6th grade keyboarding teacher here at the Tyngsborough Middle School. Keyboarding is a very important "life skill" that once successfully learned can save a person a great deal of time here at middle school, in high school, and in college! Watch anyone who types quickly without looking at their keyboard to see how useful this skill can be!
This is not an easy skill to learn and achieving this goal can be challenging. The key to success is not complicated:
1. Always keep your 8 fingers on the home row. When you need to press a key that is not on that row
move JUST that finger to press that key and then move that finger back to its home row position.
2. The program and Mr. K will teach you the proper fingers to use for each key. If you practice using them
they will soon become automatic.
3. In class, don't look at your fingers or at the keyboard. This is new and will take some practice, but soon
you will be able to type rapidly and you won't even want to look at the keyboard.
The class consists of 2 main parts:
The first part is most challenging. In this part, students will learn the keys and which finger type each with
(without looking)! :-)
The second part, involves a series of many activities Mr. K. has created to further develop a student's
"finger memory" . These activities will increase both speed and accuracy and help to solidify this skill for years to come!
