This teacher shows how to do adding with decimals. At the end of it she does a bit of fraction review which you

can also watch if you like . :-)|

Won't play on TMS network- try at home :-)

You may have to wait 20-30 seconds for the ad to play. The star of this video is Professor Perez!

This is an excellent introduction to decimals designed for middle school students. It starts out reviewing place

value (which you are all experts at by now), but then it takes place value all the way to the billionths! It review how to

write decimals in both word and fraction form as well as a decimal. It does an excellent job both showing on screen and

explaining this using place values well past thousandths! You may recall the character --> Charlie! (7:00)

decimals. Your computer needs FLASH to play this, so it may not play on our school machines, but it is worthwhile

to play on your home machine. She uses terms like "Drop like a rock", "Swing over", "Float up like a Balloon"!

(Time is not listed: estimate 4-5 minutes)

Won't play on TMS network- try at home :-)

Done by the same 2 people as parts 1 & 2, this part. The addition, subtraction and multiplication is all pretty easy to

understand, but the division is more complex. As these videos are designed for students your age and older, you

may find that this video gets a bit complicated after the first 5 minutes. Don't panic if you get a bit lost, just watch it

and see what you can follow We'll go over what you will be responsible for in class. (10:00)

MULTIPLICATION & DIVISION VIDEOS

6.

This very short video review multiplying decimals in a single problem. (2.23)

7.

Some previous videos showed how to do all kinds of different operations. This man shows us only how to do

MULTIPLICATION. Sometimes it is easier to learn a skill one-at-a-time. This is a TeacherTube video. (7:25)

8.

The teacher explains how to divide a decimal by a whole number. It is also a good dividing review too. (2:54)

9.

This mathplayground video specializes in dividing a decimal by a decimal. We've seen videos by this woman before.

She does an excellent job. The only comment I have is that in this case moving the decimal in the divisor & dividend

resulted in a number with no decimals at all. It often doesn't work out this way, but the technique is still correct. (4:07)

10.

SPECIAL NOTE: This video shows a different way to explain how to divide a decimal by a decimal.

You will not have to do your problems this way, but it is a good thing to know a second way to do things.

The goal of their work is to change all decimals into whole numbers. (6:55)

SONGS:

1.

Mrs. Newburn and her students created this song It is similar to the "We will Rock-You"! song.

She uses---"Say it---- Write it---- Simplify it!

The only problem is that we never really get to hear the much of the song performed, rather she uses it

to help remember the steps involved (5:28)

2.

A cute video sung by middle school students. The words are clear and easy to follow and the words area also

added at the bottom. (2:44)

3.

This short rap song is pretty entertaining. It reviews addition & subtraction decimal rules. "Line up the dot!"

ADDITION & SUBTRACTION

Take this 20 problem on line quiz to test your addition and subtraction skills.

In this game you will have to aim at the correct decimal and click the mouse to shoot. It is easy to start, but then gets

more challenging. A very entertaining game that makes you think!

Use your mental math skills to determine what the missing number is.

This soccer game has you solve ADDITION problems. After solving them, you will get to shoot the ball on the goalie!

A basketball game with multiple levels. Give it a try.

You may play this alone, or with a friend. It tests your addition & subtraction of decimal skills as well as comparing

and rounding of decimal skills too.

This "Who Wants to be a Millionarie?" like game tests your addition & subtraction of decimals skills.

MULTIPLICATION & DIVISION ACTIVITIES

There are 16 problems to solve. This is a very good review in that it walks you through each and every step in]

multiplying decimals.

This is a challenging MULTIPLICATION game. just like real football, you will have 4 downs/turns to score!

This is a challenging DIVISION game and you may need a paper and pencil to do the math. just like real football,

This site has a number of options, you can play against the clock or just for practice. I suggest "for practice"

You'll probably need a pencil and paper to help with the math :-) .

Help Santa to solve these addition, subtraction, multiplication & division with decimals problems.

Use your estimating and multiplication skills in this game. It is different from many other games in that you are given

a visual picture and then a word problem with multiple choice questions. An interesting game that will allow you

to use logic in problem solving.

PRACTICE TEST TIME:

Do your work on scrap paper -- then type in the answers. It's a great way to practice.

When you're finished -- the program will give you your results. Good Luck!

DECIMAL FRACTION EQUIVALENTS & PERCENTS

This excellent video covers a lot. First it briefly reviews decimal place value. It then shows 3 different ways

to change a fraction to a decimal depending upon the type of fraction you have. Watch this one carefully.

Be sure to know how to do the 4 areas with stars *** .

*** This teacher reviews the most common & best way to convert fractions to decimals. *** He also includes improper

fractions too-- so check that out carefully, as you probably haven't seen this! *** He also shows you how to show a

decimal that continues to go on and on without an end. *** He also shows you how to change a fraction BACK to

to a decimal.

A good video- but not compatible with the TMS Network.

A continuation of part 1, this part you'll do the reverse of part 1. It will review changing fractions to decimals.

It also shows how to change a FRACTION into a decimal. This is an important skill to know. (7:11)

Try this alone or with a friend. A lot of times you have to go through a lot of math to change a decimal to a fraction

or the other way around. For example: 0.5 = 1/2 ! It saves you time if you've memorized them. This video gives you

a whole lot of decimals and fractions one after the other and your job is to come up with the equivalent before it

it shows up on the screen. This is fast paced and --- it's challenging! (5:24)

There isn't a video to go with this-- but the song is short and pretty well done!

A Very entertaining interactive video game reviewing fractions, decimals and percents

Play this interactive game on fractions and percents and stop the "hacker" from emptying the rocket fuel!

A "shooting" game in which you must change fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions.

The goal is to find the matching decimal-fraction equivalent. A picture is revealed as you make correct matches.

This is not timed, but does keep track of how many tries it takes you. Play this on your own, of challenge a

friend sitting next to you to see who can uncover the picture in the fewest moves!

You are the SUPERHERO! Your job is to blast all of the decimal equivalents . You'll be given fractions and it is

up to you to find the decimal equivalent. There are a number of different rounds or levels which may challenge your

knowledge as some equivalents are simple while others are not.

A good game that allows you to pick the level of difficulty. It has no sound. Be careful NOT to hit the ENTER /RETURN

key after each click the (???) box on your screen.

A fast paced game that has you calculate tips for waiters! You'll need your multiplication and percent skills for this one!

REDUCING FRACTIONS

Often students find a common factor and divide both numerator & denominator with it and then they look

at the remaining fraction to see if they should reduce further. This video shows 2 methods of reducing

What makes this game great is that it will give you points if you reduce a fraction, but you'll get MORE points

if you reduce it to lowest terms!
