Spreadsheet Assignment #2
30%
Introduction:
Assignment #1, had a “lot” of instructions! This was necessary in order to show how to use a spreadsheet. You will use much of what you have learned to do Assignment #2. You may go back to go back to Assignment #1 instructions if necessary!
Remember that ALL calculations need to be done with formulas & follow instructions exactly.
You will use the same spreadsheet for Assignment #2.
Instructions:
a. Getting Set Up:
ANOTHER WINDOW: You will not have a paper data sheet for part 2. You will get your data from a link at the very
bottom of this page. So when you need your data for STEP "d" you will need to go to the
bottom of this page and open that website.
Before doing this: you may want to go up top to FILE: NEW WINDOW--- then go back to this tutorial page
--- and then click on that resource data link. This will allow you to have BOTH pages open at the same time.
You can close the data page after getting your data. reposition this instruction window, your Forbes Top-Earning Musicians 2009 Page, and your spreadsheet, so that you can go from one to the other easily.
b. The Title:
Using the same spreadsheet, go to cell A30 and type: Forbes Top-Earning Musicians 2009
c. In ROW 32, you will Insert Headings.
In cell A32 type: Artist or Group
In cell B32 type: Earnings
In cell C32 type: Fed./State Tax (43%)
In cell D32type: Net Earnings
Center these headings, make them bold and change the color to blue.
d. Enter Actors/Artists
First type the names of all the artists/actors on the list.
In cell A34 Type the first artist: Madonna
Continue to copy the names of all the artists in cells A35 through A45
If you do this correctly the Dave Matthews Band will be in cell A45.
e. Earnings: You will now type the 2009 earnings for each artist/actor.
Do not put in commas or dollar signs at this point, they will be added later in 1 easy step
In cell B34 type Madonna's earnings: 110000000
In cells B35 through B45 insert the earnings of the other artist/actors in the list.
If done correctly, in cell B44 you should have 45000000
f. Commas & Dollar Signs
Use what you learned in Activity 1 to insert dollar signs and commas.
Hint: hi-light cells and go up to Format Cells
g. Net Earnings: Time for you to figure a formula.
Net Earnings MEANS what is left after expenses---> which in this case is after taxes!
It is up to YOU to think of a formula to do this. Use what you've learned and combine it with your math skills!
You can do it! :-)
HINT: Start out with: =sum(
There are a number of correct formulas that may look different but will all work.
h. Create Formulas for: Totals & Averages
In A47 Type: Total
In A48 Type: Average
(1) Create formulas for Totals in columns B, C & D
(2) Create formulas for Averages in columns B, C & D
(3) Use Format-Cells to insert dollar signs & commas for these totals & averages
