## 1. Problem Solving Strategy: Draw a Picture!

Problem solving is usually the most challenging part of math. This week we will begin with a discussion of drawing a picture to solve a problem. Working with a partner, you will work on 2 problems. The first is easier and the 2nd more challenging.

1. Write your names on the top of Sheet #1.

2. Copy the word problem.

3. Brainstorm a strategy with your partner and draw it out on

4. Double Check it on that SCRAP PAPER.

4. Now, Neatly re-copy your solution to Sheet #1

Be sure to also EXPLAIN in WORDS what your plan was!

--> (Neatness and organization is VERY important).

A frog is at the bottom of a 10-meter well. Each day he climbs up 3 meters. Each night he slides down 1 meter. On what day will he reach the top of the well and escape?

Day 1? no--- which day?

At a party, there were 5 couples, including the host and hostess. Each person shook everyone's (except their partner's) hand once. How many handshakes were there altogether.
